Facts about the flag:
Barbados national flag has three vertical bands, two are blue and one is gold-colored.
At the center of the flag, you'll find the top of a black trident. The blue bands on the flag represent the sea and the gold color represents the beaches. The trident symbolizes the weapon of Neptune - the sea god.
It was frequently used during the colonial era, both in the flag and on the weapons, as well as on the coins. As a consequence of the independence of Barbados on November 30, 1966, the trident was replaced with only its upper part, which symbolizes independence and a break from the past.
The flag is one of the 1029 contributions submitted as proposals for a national flag and it was created by the art teacher, Grantley Prescod.
