Flag of Australia

Flag of Australia

Australia is located in Oceania.

The official ISO 3166 code for Australia is:

au

Facts about the flag:
The Australian flag is blue and has three separate motifs, four seven-pointed and a five-pointed star in the outer field, an even larger seven-pointed star in the lower inner corner, and the most prominent motif of the British Union flag in the upper inner corner.

The five stars symbolize the image of the Southern Cross, a constellation visible only from the southern hemisphere, of which the smallest star stands for the constellation's lightest star.

This constellation has been long associated with the settlers of the country and the colonization of Australia.

The British Union flag symbolizes Australia's past in the era during which it was a British colony. The major star of the flag is called the Commonwealth Star and is a representation of Australia as a federal state.
