Facts about the flag:
The flag of Ukraine was adopted in connection with the independence at the end of World War I, but it was unofficially used by several short-term states that existed between 1917 and 1920.
The flag was banned when the Red Army occupied the land and proclaimed the country as the Soviet Republic of Ukraine. During World War II, the flag of Ukraine was used, which at that time was German-occupied.
It was again banned from 1945 up until 1991, when it was taken back on the 4th of September. The flag is blue and yellow in two equally wide horizontal bands. Blue and gold, or yellow as it is on the flag, were used as the colors of the Kievan Rus even before Christianity had been introduced.
