The flag of Germany has three equally wide horizontal bands in black, red and gold. The flag was adopted on the 8th of May, 1949. There is also another version used by the federal authorities, which features the state weapon. The flag can be traced back to the days of the Napoleonic war, when German soldiers had uniforms of black, red and gold.
Those who opposed the French influence in Germany used a tricolor of this appearance. During the year of the revolution in 1848, the German Federation adopted this flag.
