Facts about the flag:
Belize's national flag is blue with narrow red bands along the upper and lower edges.
It was adopted on September 21, 1981. At the center of the flag, there is a white circle with the state weapon of Belize. The blue color represents the state-supporting party PUP, and the fifty leaves of the flag refer to the year of 1950, when PUP rose to power.
The flag was used unofficially before the independence of the country and became official in 1981, when two red bands representing the opposition were also added. One figure holds an axe, while the other grasps an oar, representing the country's significant forest and shipping industries.
Along the coat of arms, there is a bandwagon containing Belize's motto - Sub Umbra Floreo, which translates into "In The Shadow I Thrive".
