Sierra Leone is located in Africa.
The official ISO 3166 code for Sierra Leone is:
Green stands for agriculture, the mountains and natural resources. Blue represents the ocean and the harbor in Freetown, and white is a symbol of the country's motto; "Unity and Justice".
The colors are also found on the country's state weapon. Both the flag and the state weapon were designed by the British College of Heralds.
The flag was adopted in relation to their independence from Britain on April 27th, 1961.
The Sierra Leone ensign originates from the British way of designing ensigns with the national flag in the canton, i.e. at the top of the inner corner, occupying approximately one fourth of the size of the flag. The background of the ensign is white.
