Facts about the flag:
Slovakia's tricolor features the traditional Pan-Slavic colors and the emblem of the country's coat of arms on the flag's inner edge.
Following the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the tricolor was reinstated, but without the coat of arms. It was the official flag of the Slovak Republic within Czechoslovakia.
After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992, an independent Slovakia was formed and the coat of arms returned to the flag. One of the reasons for this addition was to distinguish it from the flag of Russia.
The flag of Slovakia was adopted on September 1st, 1992, and two days later it was raised for the first time outside Bratislava Castle.
The coat of arms features a silver double cross, representing Christianity. The three mountains below symbolize the mountains, Tatra, Fatra and Matra.
