Facts about the flag:
The Tunisian flag, with its ratio of 2:3, was adopted in conjunction with the constitution on June 1st, 1959.
The flag is completely red, except for the white circle in the center. Inside the circle, there is a red crescent and a red five-pointed star. The story behind the stars and the crescent dates all the way back to the Ottoman Empire, when the symbols were first associated with Islam.
In Tunisia's national flag, the crescent is a symbol of the united Muslim world, and the star symbolizes the five pillars of Islam. The red color stands for the blood of the opponents and is reminiscent of the Ottoman conquest in 1574. The white color of the flag stands for peace.
