The flag of Uganda was adopted in connection with the independence on the 9th of October, 1962, with the proportions 2:3.

The flag has six bands featuring the colors black, yellow and red, from the top down, with two of each color. In the center of the flag is the country's national symbol, which is an East African crowned-crane on a white circular background. The colors were used by the UPC party, which was the leading party at the time of the independence in 1962.

The crowned-crane has been the Ugandan national symbol since the colonial era, and it is also a part of the state weapon. The black on the flag symbolizes the people, the yellow represents the sun, and the red color stands for brotherhood.
