Flag of Arizona

U.S state flag of Arizona
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Arizona

The state flag of Arizona features a copper-colored star in the center of a blue field. The star is surrounded by 13 yellow and red rays that represent the sun's rays shining on the state's hills and valleys. The blue color of the field represents the state's official color, and the copper color of the star represents the state's mineral wealth.

The flag's design was adopted in 1917, and it was designed by Colonel Charles W. Harris, who was serving in the Arizona National Guard at the time. Harris wanted the flag to represent the state's resources, and he chose the copper color for the star because of the state's status as the largest producer of copper in the country at the time.
