Facts about the flag:
Since August 4th 1984, the Burkina Faso flag has used the pan-African colors, where green stands for the natural resources of the country and red symbolizes revolution. When the country—previously known as Upper Volta—became independent in 1960, the flag featured black, white and red colors in three horizontal bands. These bands represented the largest tributaries of the Volta River.
Pan-African colors originate from Ethiopia. Other African countries have seen Ethiopia as a model, since it was the only country that managed to avoid colonization or become dependent in some other way to a European state.
