Facts about the flag:
The flag of Cape Verde was not adopted until 22 September 1992, although the earlier version since the Independence of 1975 had very similar features to the current one.
The flag is based on the Guinea-Bissau flag, created by the political party PAIGC. Their goal was to unify Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, but in 1980 a military coup in Guinea-Bissau put a stop to the plans.
The two countries were never united due to the fact that president Joao Bernardo Vieira opposed the idea. The flag is blue with three horizontal stripes in the center using the colors white on top, red in the middle and white on the bottom.
You will also notice a circle of ten five-pointed stars representing each island included in the island group of Cape Verde.
