Equatorial Guinea is located in Africa.

The official ISO 3166 code for Equatorial Guinea is:

gq

The state weapon features in the flag's center, with six yellow stars above, representing the mainland and the five islands of the country.

The tree is a silk cotton tree and, underneath, lies a banner with the national motto, 'Unidad, Paz, Justitia' (unity, peace and justice). The blue triangle is a symbol of the sea, the red color stands for independence, white represents peace and the green color symbolizes agriculture.

The flag was first adopted on the 12th of October, 1968, but the state weapon was replaced with a new one during the dictatorship of Francisco Nguemas, between 1972 and 1979. On the 21st of August, 1979, the old state weapon was reinstated on the flag.
