The flag of Gabon features three horizontal bands in three different colors.

From top to bottom, the colors are green, yellow and blue. The flag has appeared this way since the 9th of August, 1960, thus, almost 60 years ago.

The blue color represents the Atlantic Ocean, the yellow color is a symbol of the sun, and the green represents the forest. The year before the flag was adopted, another similar flag was introduced in Gabon. It also had green, blue and yellow bands. Nevertheless, the bands were then in different sizes, and in the inner upper corner, the French flag could be found.
