From top to bottom, the bands feature the colors red, blue and green. But the blue band is separated from the other two bands by a thin, white line on each side. The flag has been the official flag of Gambia since the 18th of February,1965.

The flag of Gambia differs from most other African flags, as the colors do not feature any political symbolism. Red symbolizes the Savannah, blue represents the river of Gambia, and green stands for the nation's forests. The white lines are a symbol of unity and peace.
