Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Malawi
Malawi is located in Africa.
The official ISO 3166 code for Malawi is:
The flag of Malawi was adopted on the 29th of July, 2010. The new version was created to fulfill the president's wish to include a whole sun that would symbolize the country's development.
From 1964, the flag was a tricolor featuring the Pan-African colors of red, black and green (before yellow was introduced), with a rising red sun on the upper black band. It was in the same year that today's Malawi was created that New Zealand became free from the colonization of the British.
The flag originates from the civil rights movement UNIA-ACL, during which Marcus Garvey designed the flag. The black stands for the color of the African people, the red field represents all victims of the fight for freedom, and the green symbolizes the fertile soil.
