Flag of Jordan
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Jordan
Jordan is located in Asia.
The official ISO 3166 code for Jordan is:
Jordan's flag was adopted on April 16, 1928, with the proportions 1:2.
The flag is a tricolor, just like many other flags. It is made in the pan-Arabic colors black, white and green. It also contains a red triangle with a white star at the inner edge. The flag is based on a flag used during the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1916-1918.
The white star was introduced when Jordan gained independence in 1928; the same era when Jordan was called Transjordan. The colors in the black, white, and green flag represent the dynasties Abbasid, Umayyadian and Fatimid.
The red triangle represents the Hashimid dynasty, as well as the Arab revolt. The seven-pointed white star of the flag has two different meanings: it symbolizes the seven verses in the first surah of the Quran and the unity of the Arab people.
