Facts about the flag:
The flag is a tricolor in the classic Pan-Arabic colors, red, white and black, with a green triangle. The structure is similar to flags of many other Arab countries.
The red color on the flag of Sudan stands for their fight for independence and also represents their Sudanese and Arab martyrs. White stands for Islam, peace, light and love. In most cases, green is the color of Islam, but here, green represents success and agriculture, and black is a symbol of Sudan and the Mahdist appeal at the end of the 19th century.
At the time of independence in 1956, a tricolor in blue, yellow and green was used. The flag was replaced by the current flag on the 29th of May, 1970, after a military coup.
