Flag of Kosovo
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Kosovo

Kosovo is located in Europe.

The official ISO 3166 code for Kosovo is:

xk

The flag's design was created thanks to a competition hosted by the UN-supported PISG. The competition saw almost 1,000 entries, and today's flag is based on a suggestion by Muhamer Ibrahimi. On February 17th, 2008, the flag was officially adopted by parliament, which is the same date the country gained its independence from Serbia.

The six white stars above the map of Kosovo are symbolic of the six major ethnic groups in the country. These groups are Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma and Bosnians.

The flag of Kosovo shares some resemblance to the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both in terms of color and the inclusion of stars. The choice of emblem is different to all other flags, except Cyprus, whose flag also features a map of the country.
