Flag of Micronesia
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Micronesia

Micronesia is located in Oceania.

The official ISO 3166 code for Micronesia is:

fm

Initially, the country was an UN-mandated area and the Pacific Protectorate of the United States.

Unlike the current flag of the Federated States of Micronesia, an earlier version was used from 1962, which displayed six stars instead of the four five-pointed stars seen today.

These stars were a symbol for Palau, Chuuk (then Truk), the Marshall Islands, Yap, Pohnpei and the Northern Mariana Islands. The latter became autonomous on April 1st, 1976, and the decrease in the number of stars in the flag was due to the fact that Palau and the Marshall Islands chose not to be part of the Federated States of Micronesia any longer. The blue color is a symbol of the Pacific.
