Flag of Monaco
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Monaco
Monaco is located in Europe.
The official ISO 3166 code for Monaco is:
Red and white have been the colors of the princely family Grimaldi since 1331, and these colors are also found on their coat of arms. Prince Charles III adopted the flag on April 4th, 1881, during the same period that the Franco-Monégasque agreement of 1861 came to an end. Thus, Monaco was no longer a protectorate of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
The flag has several similarities to the flag of Indonesia; the two flags are both bicolored in red and white, with the same two horizontal bands. The only difference is in the proportions. The shape of the Monaco version, however, is more squared.
