Poland is located in Europe.

The colors red and white have been used to represent Poland since the 13th century. They were officially adopted as national colors in 1831.
The current flag was used during the 1830s and was adopted as a national flag on August 1st, 1919, in connection with the independence. During the communist period between 1945 and 1989, the red color in the flag was said to be the symbol of socialism.
In 1992, when a new democratic government was put in place, the official interpretation was changed so the colors became simply a symbol of the nation. The ensign and merchant flag look like the national flag but with the state weapon in the white field. The war flags are also swallow-tailed.
