Blue is the national color of Mongolia and represents the Mongolian people. Red is a traditional symbol for socialism, but can also be seen as a symbol of the country's progress.
The emblem of the flag's inner edge, called "sojombo", represents the country's Buddhist world view. The emblem contains many different elements to enlighten various aspects of Buddhism.
Mongolia was declared independent from China on December 1st, 1911, but control over the country shifted from being more or less impending by all that occurred during the Russian Revolution and the unstable situation in China. Mongolia was proclaimed a People's Republic in 1924 and their first flag saw the light of day the same year. The current flag was adopted on February 12th, 1992.
