Flag of Saudi Arabia

Flag of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is located in Asia.

The official ISO 3166 code for Saudi Arabia is:

sa

Facts about the flag:
An Arabic script - the Islamic creed, shahadah "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet", dominates the center of the Saudi Arabian flag.

The green color is also the traditional color of Islam and, according to legend, was the favorite color of the prophet Muhammed. The white sword beneath the text is a symbol of the victory of Ibn Saud, who was king between 1932 and 1953.

The design of the flag derives from the flags used by the Wahhabi movement in the late 19th century - a supporting force in Ibn Saud's quest to become sultan over the kingdom of Nejd. The flag prior to this period had no sword beneath the Islamic creed. Ibn Saud chose to add the weapon to represent the sword given to him by his father.
