The yellow color symbolizes wealth, and it represents the workers who harvest their fruits, and are a people who prioritize economy and progress. Red represents the color of blood and life.

The five-pointed star is a common symbol in Africa. It stands for the people who do not live by "rice and bread" alone. The flag was adopted on the 20th of August, 1960.
