Flag of Singapore
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Singapore

Singapore is located in Asia.

The official ISO 3166 code for Singapore is:

sg

Red and white are common colors in the countries neighboring Singapore.

They stand as a symbol, in the Singapore flag, for brotherhood and equality in the red field, while white represents purity and virtue. The half moon was formerly a sign to the Malays that Singapore was not a part of China. Today, it stands for a young and growing nation.

The half moon should not be confused with the symbolic icon of Islam, as these two have no connection to each other in Singapore.

The flag was adopted on December 3rd, 1959, when the country was given a form of self-governance by the Brits. However, it was only ratified when the republic became fully independent on August 9th, 1965.
