Flag of Tennessee

U.S state flag of Tennessee
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Tennessee

The state flag of Tennessee is a simple but striking symbol of the state's history and identity. The flag features a bold red field with a blue circle in the center, surrounded by a white border. Within the blue circle is a white, five-pointed star, representing the state's status as the 16th state to join the Union.

The three white stars on the blue band that encircles the circle symbolize the three grand divisions of the state - West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and East Tennessee. This feature highlights Tennessee's unique geography and the diverse culture of its people.

The flag's red background represents the valor and bravery of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. Additionally, the white border signifies the state's peacefulness and harmony, while the blue circle and star represent the United States.

The current design of the Tennessee state flag was adopted in 1905, replacing an earlier version that featured a much more complex design. The current design has stood the test of time and remains a popular symbol of the state to this day.
