Flag of Dominican Republic
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic is located in North America.

The official ISO 3166 code for Dominican Republic is:

do

The flag was created by the independence movement during the Haitian occupation of the Dominican Republic, between 1822 and 1844. The flag was adopted the same year that the Dominican Republic became independent from Haiti.

The white cross is a symbol of both the Christian faith and everything the people have sacrificed in order to become an independent state. In the center of the flag, there is an image of their state weapon; their national motto is in a blue band, placed above the picture: dios, patria, libertad (god, country and freedom). Their Christian faith is also reflected there, with a picture of a Bible opened at the Gospel of John.
