Flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Facts, history and meaning about the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is located in North America.

The official ISO 3166 code for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is:

vc

Blue stands for the sky and the sea, yellow represents the sun, and green stands for the country's lush vegetation.

The state weapon once stood in the center of the flag, but has now been replaced by three green rhombi, a reference to the nickname of the country, the "Jewels of the Antilles". The flag was adopted on the 21st of October, 1985, but the state weapon was replaced by the rhombi in 1991.

The flag that was used at the time the country became independent, in 1979, was not particularly popular among the population. A competition was launched in 1985, but none of the proposals were considered good enough to become a national flag. Eventually, a Swiss graphic designer was asked to create the flag.
