The flag of Venezuela originates from the beginning of 1806, but it was not until the 12th of March, 2006, that the flag was officially adopted in its present form, with the proportions 2:3.

The flag is a tricolor, like many other flags, with the color scheme of yellow, blue and red. In the blue field, in the center of the flag, there are eight stars in a semicircle.

In the upper left-hand corner of the yellow field, stands the state weapon of Venezuela. The yellow color represents the riches of Venezuela and the red stands for the blood from the warriors shed during the fight for independence. The blue is the sea that separates Venezuela from the motherland of Spain, and it represents freedom and independence. Red and yellow are also to be found on the flag of Spain, these colors are used to indicate origins.
